Understanding How Clinicians Form – and Reform – Beliefs about Trisomy 13 and 18

Katharine Press Callahan, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Renee Boss, Johns Hopkins University

November 2025 – October 2026

Building on evidence that clinicians’ beliefs about trisomy 13 and 18 are influenced by both formal and informal education, this project will explore how these beliefs are formed and how they may be changed. The research will examine existing literature on clinician belief formation related to trisomy 13 and 18 and similar conditions, review interventions that may shift clinician perspectives, and survey clinicians from multiple disciplines to expand understanding of the factors shaping their beliefs. Completing this work is fundamental to developing impactful interventions.
